Dexterity depends on sensory information from our fingers about the forces applied to objects and the material properties and surface textures of those objects. 

There have been no artificial sensors that could provide this information to mechatronic hands with the sensitivity, dynamic range and robustness that humans take for granted in their own hands. Until now...

   

JULY 2009 | SBIR GRANT FUNDING

Syntouch has secured Phase 1 Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Grants from three separate federal agencies.  The National Institutes of Health is supporting development of tactile sensors for prosthetic hands.  The National Science Foundation is supporting application of tactile sensing to endow industrial robots with haptic capabilities.  The US Department of Agriculture is supporting development of tactile sensors for the challenging environments of produce harvesting and handling.
