SynTouch LLC is a start-up technology business that develops and manufactures tactile sensors for mechatronic systems. It was founded in 2008, by researchers from the Medical Device Development Facility of the University of Southern California. In its first two years SynTouch has secured multiple SBIR grants from a range of federal agencies, and is aggressively patenting its technology domestically and abroad.

Our mission is to produce tactile sensors that mimic the human hand. We seek to develop the same multimodal sensitivity and dynamic range in the human hand in a form that is economical, robust and field-serviceable for use in realistic environments. Our proven, patented technology, is being integrated into form factors for various applications, including industrial and military robots, agricultural produce handling and prosthetic hands.

Tactile information from our BioTAC(R) can be used for closed-loop control of grip strategies, for telerobotic and haptic displays to human operators, and for haptic perception by autonomous robots.

SynTouch seeks to partner with researchers and manufacturers involved in these fields to develop complete products that are enabled by tactile sensing.
